Preface#
Actually, I only heard about Backblaze earlier this year when I was frantically searching online for freeloading object storage.
Then I came across Backblaze B2, which offers free 10GB object storage + 1GB free daily download bandwidth.
It seems pretty good, what do you think? (:
Introduction#
Backblaze is a relatively well-established cloud storage service provider founded in 2007. It is committed to providing users with affordable storage services.
You may have seen some of its reports, which provide detailed information about disk reliability, total disk reliability, reliable disk manufacturers, and other related information about mechanical hard drives.
But today our topic is not about disk reliability blabla, we want to get its 10GB free storage.
Starting from this article, we will use Backblaze B2 + Cloudflare as the image hosting service. Please leave a comment in the comment section about the image loading speed.
Steps#
Register an account#
Then enter your email and password, click on "Region" below to select the region where the storage service is located. You can choose either US West or EU Central.
I chose US West when I registered, which is the western United States. You can test which region has faster speed.
Log in to your account, and we will be taken to the backend.
Create a bucket#
Click on "Create a new bucket" to create a bucket with any name. I will use the bucket for my blog as an example.
After creating the bucket, click on "Bucket Settings" to configure the bucket.
Next, in Bucket Info
, enter {"cache-control":"max-age=31536000"}
to set the cache duration, preparing for setting up Cloudflare later.
Save the settings, click on the "Upload/Download" button, and you will be taken to the file management page.
Upload your files, click on the information button next to them to see the detailed information of the files.
Connect to Cloudflare#
Cloudflare has a partnership with Backblaze, and using Cloudflare to connect to Backblaze B2 can eliminate traffic costs.
Take note of the Friendly URL's root domain, for example, mine is f004.backblazeb2.com
.
Let's open the Cloudflare backend, log in to your account, and select the domain.
Choose CNAME as the record type, enter a name you like for the name, and enter the root domain as the target. Enable the orange cloud.
After saving, open "Page Rules" and add a rule as shown in the image below:
After saving, everything is done!
Next, replace the root domain in the Friendly URL with your own Cloudflare-connected domain and give it a try!
Demonstration#
The following images and video are loaded using Cloudflare + Backblaze B2, with the video resolution set to 720P.
I strongly demand that Mr. Pras give me money for this (haze
We can see that with the support of Cloudflare, the external link speed of Backblaze is quite fast.
Using Microsoft Edge DevTools to view the elements, we can see that both have hit the cache:
So far, our setup is complete! Let's start experiencing it!
If you have ImgURL Pro, you can use Backblaze B2 as a shortcut for uploading images.
